An 18.8 per cent audience share carried La 1 to the top of Spain's channel rankings last month, RTVE's best monthly figure since December 2006. Barlovento Comunicación ties the jump to the broadcaster's exclusive World Cup coverage and Spain's victorious run through the tournament. Antena 3 kept second place on 11.4 per cent, and Telecinco slid to a record low of 7.1 per cent. Cuatro posted 5.8 per cent, La Sexta 4.9 per cent, and the shift carried RTVE past Atresmedia and Mediaset España in the overall broadcaster standings. On the DTT thematic side, Mediaset's FDF led with 2.4 per cent, followed by Energy on 2.2 per cent, Be Mad on 2.1 per cent, and Atreseries and Divinity both on 2.0 per cent.

Live sport still commands audiences that streaming platforms cannot match, and Spain's numbers make the case in concrete terms: a single tournament reordered the country's channel rankings inside a month. Campaigns planned against Telecinco's usual reach now sit against a record low, and any buy anchored to Atresmedia's or Mediaset's typical share needs revisiting until the post-tournament numbers settle. Agencies working TV plans in Spain should treat August audience data as a World Cup outlier when they set baselines for the rest of the year, and adjust upcoming negotiations accordingly.
