Ahead of a season carrying 1,500 live matches across the Premier League, EFL, WSL and Scottish Premiership, Sky Sports has rebuilt its 'Welcome to the Show' tagline into a full creative platform. Ceri Sampson, group executive creative director of brand and design at Sky, says the phrase resonated with audiences last year without the team fully understanding why, prompting a strategy exercise that split it into two ideas: 'welcome' for inclusivity and emotional connection, and 'the show' for Sky's production value, commentators and camera coverage. The resulting campaign spans six national posters, 20 club-specific executions naming individual fanbases, and a 30-second film built around wry match-day rituals, from putting on a Liverpool kit to sharing takeaway food framed as 'fine dining.' AI tools generated storyboards and animatics in under a day, work Sampson says previously took a week, and produced a stadium-wide pyrotechnics finale for the ad's closing shot. A separate 3D activation at Piccadilly Lights used robotic arms to imprint a ball with campaign messaging.

Campaigns built around large audience volumes like Sky's 1,500-match slate depend on messaging that holds together across dozens of local variations, and the AI-assisted production process Sampson describes cuts the time needed to test that many versions before a shoot. Agencies pitching against similarly fragmented rights packages, whether in sport, streaming or multi-market retail, can point to Sky's approach as evidence that generative tools now handle ideation and previsualization reliably, while performance and dialogue scenes still need human actors. The Piccadilly Lights activation also signals how AI-rendered assets are moving from internal pitch decks into finished out-of-home work, a shift worth tracking for anyone buying or producing premium placements.
