Sony debuts Live TV on PS5, 100+ free ad-supported channels, US first

More than 100 free, ad-supported video channels are available through Live TV on PS5, a new service from Sony Pictures Television for PlayStation 5 users. The service has launched in the US, and Sony expects to add Canada soon, Variety reports, citing company data. Sony says the package will include programs from partners such as ABC News, A+E Global Media, AMC Global Media, Amazon MGM Studios, ESPN, Fox, Lionsgate, NASCAR, NBCUniversal, the NFL Channel, Radial Entertainment and UFC, plus channels including ABC News Live, Fox Sports, Fox Weather, LiveNOW, NBC News Now and NBC Sports Now. New channels, themed programming and live broadcasts will follow later, Sony says.
A base of more than 95 million PS5 consoles sold worldwide as of June 30, 2026, gives advertisers a way to reach viewers who spend little time with traditional TV, according to Sony Interactive Entertainment. Sony will work with TV advertising specialists Publica and PubMatic on the new service and expects advertiser interest to be high. The launch follows earlier word that Sony Interactive Entertainment is building a global ad-sales organization to monetize the PlayStation ecosystem beyond its console and subscription business.
