United beams a live ESPN fantasy football pick from 35,000 feet on Starlink wifi

At 35,000 feet, next Tuesday's fantasy football draft will include one ESPN panelist working live from a United flight, connected by Starlink wifi while the rest of the panel drafts from Bristol, Connecticut. The airline's Kinective Media network, launched in 2024 as the first media network run by an airline, sits behind the stunt. It draws on more than 100 million traveler profiles, each linked to a verified identity built from booking records and TSA screening, and reaches passengers through the app, the website, airport screens and the seatback in front of them. United's loyalty chief has described the ambition as being "programmatic in the sky."
A three-hour flight now counts as one of the most concentrated attention windows in commerce media, verified identity attached and a premium screen guaranteed for the length of the trip. Starlink is the piece that makes that attention usable in real time: more than 500 United aircraft already carry the connection, enough to stream a televised draft pick or run a live commercial from a seat in the sky. Buyers evaluating retail and commerce media inventory gain a live-video, verified-identity channel to test alongside checkout and app placements, one where the audience is captive, offline distractions are limited and dwell time runs into hours.
