Walmart Connect is acquiring self-serve CTV platform Vibe.co for roughly $1.4 billion, while 2026-27 TV upfront sales climbed to $33.8 billion with streaming up 30 percent. The Trade Desk shipped Zuma with its Koa AI assistant, and Amazon DSP extended VAST 4 support across 34 countries. IAS data shows closed platforms now capture 5.5 times more spend than the open web.
The Trade Desk rolls out Zuma, Kokai's next phase, with Koa AI assistant
The Trade Desk has released Zuma, described as the next phase of its Kokai platform for the open internet. The update adds refreshed interfaces, an AI assistant called Koa, and new measurement tools built to help traders manage campaigns and read performance faster. Koa, currently in closed beta, coordinates specialized AI agents that support campaign creation, audience building, troubleshooting and performance analysis. A global platform analysis found a 32% average CPA improvement in campaigns using Koa Optimizations, based on a comparison of 62 campaigns against the previous model, with results reported as statistically significant. Other closed-beta features include Koa frequency controls, which adjust delivery settings automatically, and conversion lift tools built to simplify testing setup. Audience Unlimited pairs third-party data access with AI-powered audience expansion. The Trade Desk says initial capabilities may vary and more features are planned over time.
Amazon DSP adds VAST 4 support for third-party video inventory in 34 countries
Amazon Ads announced on September 02, 2026 that its buying platform now reads what each publisher's video player supports and serves the highest compatible version, extending VAST 4 support, versions 4.0 through 4.3, to third-party publisher inventory in 34 countries. Publishers still on VAST 2 or VAST 3 continue to be served as before, while VAST 4 publishers receive VAST 4 automatically, with no election required from the buyer. There is no cutover date and no migration step for advertisers. Amazon's own properties, including Stores and Fire TV, continue to support only VAST 2 and VAST 3 creatives, and the company gives no timeline for closing that gap. Advertisers running their own advertiser ad server can now use VAST 4 tags on third-party inventory, which removes a downgrade step that agencies with their own serving stack had been absorbing. The 34-country list matches the market perimeter Amazon used for its global advertiser account migration on July 30, 2026.
Media Dynamics: 2026-27 TV upfront ad sales hit $33.8 billion, streaming up 30%
Total primetime upfront advertising sales across broadcast, cable and streaming reached approximately $33.8 billion for the 2026-27 season, up roughly 9 percent from close to $31 billion the year before, according to research firm Media Dynamics. Streaming commitments rose about 30 percent to roughly $17.2 billion, while broadcast fell to $8.63 billion from $9.1 billion and cable dropped to about $8 billion from $8.7 billion. CPMs fell roughly 6 percent overall as streaming volume growth outpaced rate declines elsewhere. Nielsen's 2026 Upfront Planning Guide found streaming capturing 66.7 percent of ad-supported television time among adults 18 to 49, while linear still took 67.5 percent of total TV ad spending, a gap agencies are using to argue for reallocating budget toward streaming. A separate Advertiser Perceptions survey found 78 percent of buyers planned to factor addressable television into their 2026 deals, up from 67 percent a year earlier.
Walmart buys self-serve CTV platform Vibe.co in deal WSJ pegs at $1.4 billion
Walmart Connect said Tuesday it will acquire Vibe.co, a self-serve connected TV ad platform built for small and mid-sized businesses, in a deal the Wall Street Journal estimates at $1.4 billion. Walmart did not disclose official terms. The estimate includes a $1.2 billion cash payout to Vibe.co and roughly $180 million for the company's top executives under a four-year retention agreement. Vibe.co CEO Arthur Querou and CTO Franck Tetzlaff will join Walmart's advertising unit. The platform lets advertisers launch CTV campaigns for $50 a day, with real-time attribution, conversion pixels and integrations for Shopify, Google Analytics and other mobile measurement partners. Walmart Connect general manager Ryan Mayward said the goal is to make commerce media "more accessible, more measurable and easier to activate for advertisers of all sizes." The deal pairs Vibe.co's platform with Walmart's shopper data and Vizio inventory, and follows Amazon's new Samsung TV Plus tie-up announced the same week.
Half of Zen posts get under 150 views, LiveDune study finds
A new LiveDune study of Zen publications finds a median of just 100 to 150 views per post, even though the average across the sample reached about 8,000 views. Among the top 50 posts in July 2026, the median view count was 978,000 and the typical author had 88,000 subscribers. Subscriber count alone rarely explains a breakout: the smallest channel to go viral in the sample had just over 1,000 subscribers yet drew 981,000 views on a single post. Media outlets publish hundreds or thousands of items a month on Zen but often see only 200 to 300 views per post, while bloggers who post once or twice a day and hold around 50,000 subscribers average 17,000 to 20,000 views each. Zen's algorithm weighs how users react to a specific post over the size of its channel.
Pro TV expands commercial audience from 21-54 to 20-60 ahead of 2027 ad sales
Pro TV will sell advertising against a new commercial audience of 20-to-60-year-olds starting in 2027, replacing the 21-54 ABCD target it introduced in 2021. Florin Alexandrescu, Chief Business Officer at Pro TV, announced the change, which adds roughly 20% more people to the target group, reaching 7.6 million economically active Romanians. Under the new target, one GRP30 unit represents 76,000 viewers, up from 64,000 under the old target. The shift comes as measured TV consumption among urban 21-54 viewers fell 7.4% in 2025 and Pro TV's delivered GRP30 volume on that target dropped 9.2% to 551,355, according to Initiative România's Media Fact Book. A wider audience base lets Pro TV justify higher cost-per-point pricing, which already rose 11% over the past year for the 21-54 urban segment.
TikTok Launches TikTok Go, In-Feed Hotel and Tour Booking for US Users
TikTok launched TikTok Go on May 13, 2026, a new feature that lets US users book hotels, tours, attractions and local services directly inside the main feed. Users 18 and older will see brands and local businesses promoted in videos, search results and location pages, with options to check availability and complete bookings without leaving the app. Booking.com, Expedia, Viator, GetYourGuide, Tiqets and Trip.com are among the launch partners, alongside local merchants and creators. Creators can link hotel, attraction and local service content directly to bookings and earn commissions through campaigns. The feature extends TikTok's push into travel commerce, following last year's hospitality monetization program for creators and the recent launch of AI-powered Travel Ads, a catalog-based format for automated hotel, flight and destination promotion.
The Inhouse's Rasha Hamzeh coins 'Podcast Engine Optimisation' for MENA audio discovery
Rasha Hamzeh, an advisor at The Inhouse and producer of Luca's Insight Track, says AI-driven content volume is pushing MENA brands toward personal branding over generic advertising. In an interview with ExchangeWire, she describes the regional podcast market as fragmented, with no standard way to package, price or sell inventory across platforms. Spotify, YouTube and Anghami all hold pieces of the audience but none has become the default home for audio advertising in the region, while Deezer has little presence there. Hamzeh points to Egypt as an underrated market: despite smaller ad budgets than Saudi Arabia and the UAE, Egyptian shows are already testing paid YouTube, Apple subscriptions and paywalled content. She has built a concept called Podcast Engine Optimisation, applying search-style discoverability thinking to help podcasts reach the right listeners.
RunnTV convenes ICFC roundtable with JioStar, Zee, Magnite on CTV standards for India
Runn Media Labs, the company behind RunnTV, convened the inaugural roundtable of the India Connected TV & FAST Council (ICFC), bringing together JioStar, Zee, Magnite, Trade Desk and CloudTV to discuss a shared industry body for India's Connected TV and Free Ad-Supported Streaming Television (FAST) market. The session covered the structure, governance, funding model and membership categories such a body might take, along with audience measurement standards, data privacy and policy engagement. Participants stressed that any new organization needs balanced representation across broadcasters, platforms, content owners, brands and agencies, with safeguards against control by a single company or segment. RunnTV founder and CEO Manish Sinha called the fast-growing ecosystem fragmented and underserved by infrastructure. The talks arrive as India's government moves toward a formal regulatory framework for FAST and Application-based Linear Television Distribution (ATLD) services.
IAS's Ashish Trivedi: closed ecosystems capture 5.5x more ad spend than open web
Ashish Trivedi of Integral Ad Science says closed advertising ecosystems now pull in 5.5 times more spend than the open web, a gap he called disproportionate to the time consumers spend on those platforms, citing Statista data. Speaking at Storyboard18's Global GenZ Summit in Mumbai, Trivedi argued measurement is becoming a brand-protection requirement as budgets shift into quick commerce, CTV and AI-driven feeds. One in four digital ad dollars now goes into e-retail, he said, and IAS's Papyrus fraud report found code that mimics scrolling, clicks and attention signals to siphon millions from mobile campaigns. Trivedi compared platforms grading their own performance to a bank auditing its own books. "You cannot have trust without an independent verifier," he said.
