Google adds automatic AI voiceovers to Performance Max video ads, opt-out ends March 20

Jordan Fry, CEO of the Google and Pinterest buying service RevAmp, posted a Google email on LinkedIn describing an AI voiceover feature coming to Performance Max video ads. The tool converts an advertiser's existing headlines and descriptions into a spoken audio track using Google's large language models, then layers that narration onto videos that currently run silent or with music only. Videos with an existing human narrator, branded audio or other spoken elements are excluded. The feature is enabled by default and scheduled to activate automatically next week; advertisers have until March 20 to opt out. Google previously offered only a manual version of the tool, where marketers typed a script and chose a voice in the Asset Library.
Campaigns running silent or music-only video creative will get an AI narrator added automatically unless someone opts out before March 20, and the feature stays on by default afterward. Agencies managing large Performance Max portfolios will need to review asset libraries for qualifying videos before the deadline, or accept auto-generated voice tracks across every account. PPC influencer Georgi Zayakov cautioned on LinkedIn that "if all advertisers run the same voice it won't be good." Meta's comparable voiceover tool requires advertisers to opt in manually during ad or Reels setup, so Performance Max now moves further ahead in automating creative production than Meta's Advantage+ tools.
