Comcast to split into NBCUniversal and Comcast Corp, completing within a year

Comcast will split into two independent public companies, NBCUniversal and Comcast Corp, less than a year after spinning off many of its cable networks into Versant. NBCUniversal will house NBC, Telemundo, Peacock, Bravo, its film and TV studios, theme parks and the European Sky business, while Comcast will operate as a broadband, wireless and entertainment technology company. Comcast Chairman and co-CEO Brian Roberts stays in charge of Comcast, co-CEO Mike Cavanagh becomes CEO of NBCUniversal, and former CFO Michael Angelakis rejoins Comcast as CEO. The split is expected to close within a year. Advertisers will keep access to NBCUniversal and Versant brands under the same data and technology, though Comcast gave no indication of long-term plans for that advertising sales and technology partnership.

News: Over 60% of Google searches end without a click, RP3 Agency's Altunisik writes

Over 60% of Google searches end without a click, RP3 Agency's Altunisik writes

More than 60% of Google searches now end without a click, according to RP3 Agency media supervisor Ayse Altunisik, writing in MediaPost on August 5, 2026. Altunisik argues clicks remain valuable in lower-funnel channels like direct response, email and retargeting, where they signal where a customer sits in the journey. Upper-funnel awareness campaigns need different measurement, since a click or its absence reveals little about influence. She cites Goodhart's Law: "When a measure becomes a target, it ceases to be a good measure." Altunisik urges marketers to question vendors who dismiss clicks, since those vendors often promote metrics that benefit their own platforms, and to build layered measurement instead of chasing a single perfect number.

News: AdRiver launches 'engagement' attention score for video and banner ads

AdRiver launches 'engagement' attention score for video and banner ads

AdRiver, the Russian ad verification and management service, began offering clients test access to an engagement metric for online video and banner ads in February 2026, commercial director Roman Kokhanovsky told ADPASS. The score combines up to six signals depending on ad format: clicks, video completion, sound-on playback, on-screen viewability share, cursor hover and cursor movement near the ad block. AdRiver calculates the index daily on a 0 to 100 scale, with a main run at 06:00 and a same-day recalculation at 14:00. Click and sound-on signals carry the heaviest weight, since AdRiver's research found them the strongest indicators of active engagement. The company says a double-digit number of clients now use the metric, including advertisers in finance, telecom, retail, e-commerce and pharma. One finance-sector campaign raised its engagement score from about 30% to 40% after the advertiser added sound-on placements and reworked its opening seconds.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day sets $360M opening record without a traditional TV push

Disney and Sony's Spider-Man: Brand New Day earned $360 million in its US opening weekend, the largest domestic opening of all time, surpassing Avengers: Endgame. The film grossed $932 million worldwide in its debut. Paired with The Odyssey's opening, the weekend produced $430 million in domestic box office, the biggest collective weekend total ever recorded. Adweek's data shows the marketing campaign built its audience through social platforms as the primary channel, with a lighter television buy than typical tentpole releases carry. The film climbed to record numbers with less TV media weight than past superhero openings carried. For studios and their agencies planning theatrical releases, the result offers a fresh data point on how far a social-led campaign can carry a major title.

News: Snap completes Ads MCP server rollout, letting Claude, ChatGPT query campaigns

Snap completes Ads MCP server rollout, letting Claude, ChatGPT query campaigns

Snap confirmed on July 25 that it finished rolling out the Snapchat Ads Model Context Protocol server, a tool that lets advertisers connect AI assistants such as Claude, ChatGPT and Gemini directly to their ad account data. Admins can ask the connected AI agent questions like "Which performance trends require a closer look?" and get answers grounded in campaign data they're authorized to see, replacing manual report pulls and spreadsheet building. Organization administrators must approve each AI agent individually and set its access permissions. At launch every connection is read-only, with write access planned for a future release. The rollout follows similar MCP server launches from Pinterest, TikTok and Meta. Snap calls the approach "human-first, AI-enabled advertising," and it arrives alongside the company's new Snap Smart Assistant and a revamp of Dynamic Product Ads using agentic recommendation models.

X's ad revenue reaches $367 million in Q2, $713 million below 2022 level

SpaceX reported $367 million in advertising revenue for X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, for the second quarter of 2026, covering April through June. The figure sits inside SpaceX's earnings report under the company's AI Segment category and marks an increase from the previous quarter's $343 million, which was recorded before SpaceX became a publicly traded company. It also represents an $83 million year-over-year decline. Twitter's ad revenue for the same quarter in 2022, just before Elon Musk's takeover, was $1.08 billion, roughly $713 million more than X reported now. SpaceX CFO Bret Johnsen linked the quarterly increase to an overhauled ad-tech platform. X's ad business remains small next to SpaceX's other units: $2.2 billion from AI, $4.3 billion from Starlink and $962 million from its space division.

Spotify posted €446 million in advertising revenue for the second quarter of 2026, up 1% year over year in reported terms and 3% at constant currency. Active advertisers reached 33,000, a 60% increase from a year earlier. Automated sales channels rose to nearly 40% of ad revenue, up from just over 30% in the first quarter. Free-tier ad impressions climbed 14% to 494 million and remained the main driver of growth. Spotify said 99% of ad impressions now run through its own advertising stack, as the company continues shifting inventory onto internal systems. The company forecasts third-quarter revenue of about €5 billion and operating profit of €670 million. Spotify also began restricting free-tier access in some emerging markets, including India and Indonesia.

News: FuboTV closes Disney Ad Server integration, narrows Q3 loss to $25.7M

FuboTV closes Disney Ad Server integration, narrows Q3 loss to $25.7M

FuboTV completed its integration with Disney Ad Server during its fiscal third quarter, the company said, giving the two companies a shared ad tech stack after their early 2025 deal that merged FuboTV with Hulu + Live TV. FuboTV reported $1.48 billion in revenue for the quarter and narrowed its net loss to $25.7 million, down from $38 million a year earlier. Paid subscribers grew 2% year over year to 5.75 million, a gain FuboTV credits partly to its presence on Disney platforms including ESPN. The company says the completed integration has already produced higher fill rates and higher rates for the ads it sells. Paramount Skydance made similar claims about combined tech stacks during its own earnings call this week. FuboTV and Disney both reported fiscal third-quarter earnings on Wednesday.
