Reddit Adds 15-Second Engaged Video View Goal for Advertisers

A 15-second engaged video view is now a selectable optimization goal on Reddit, launched in public beta and sitting alongside the platform's existing 6-second view goal within Ads Manager. Reddit counts an engaged view as a full completion for videos 15 seconds or shorter, or 15 seconds of watch time for anything longer. The company frames the two goals as different signals: a 6-second view shows someone noticed an ad, while a 15-second view shows someone stayed long enough to absorb more of a brand's story, product value or message. Reddit points to film, TV and gaming as categories suited to the format, alongside use cases like trailers, product demos, testimonials and brand storytelling. In early testing, Reddit reported a 51% boost in 15-second view-through rate and a 71% boost in video completion rate.

Buyers now get a dedicated goal for creative that needs more than a few seconds to land, plus a built-in way to test it: Reddit is opening split testing in Ads Manager so advertisers can measure the 15-second goal head to head against the 6-second one on their own campaigns. Reddit's own guidance draws the line at creative length and message speed, suggesting 6-second optimization for ads that land their point almost immediately and the 15-second goal for campaigns that need more room to persuade. That leaves the choice of goal, and the read on which one performs, in the advertiser's hands rather than settled by Reddit's early test numbers alone.
